DO YOU SELL BREEDING STOCK?

We sell MBOAR qualified breeding stock on occasion and are happy to discuss your program with you. It is important to remember:

  • Pigs should not be raised alone

  • Sourcing quality stock with lineage is imperative to reduce the likelihood of breeding with close relatives.

  • Mangalitsa should be raised on lands that offer exercise and foraging to maximize their potential for delivering great meat and lard.

  • This is a lard pig~ 60% of carcass weight is fat.

WHY DOES 100% PURE MATTER?

The Mangalitsa prized fat is adversely affected when crossed with other breeds. Cross breeding Mangalitsa is an effort by some to increase the muscle of this breed to yield larger loins and chops. Some are satisfied with their results~ many more wish they’d kept their farms pure.

We believe the Mangalitsa is perfect the way it is! A high quality protein and lard source that develops in 18 months.

WHY IS MANGALITSA SO EXPENSIVE?

Considering the 18 months of time and resources required to raise Mangalitsa on pasture, we believe we are offering an exceptional product at a very reasonable price!

There is more involved than feed and labor in caring for animals. Our commitment to conservation practices, certified Non-GMO feeds and pasture rotation contribute significantly to overhead.

We thank you for your support of small farms and hope you too are highly satisfied with playing your part in providing healthy lifestyles for animals that provide food for your table.

WHAT CERTIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?

Certifications are vital for consumer confidence in claims made by farmers.

We are certified by the following:

Animal Welfare Approved

Appalachian Grown

Got to be NC

STRAW WOULD HAVE TO BE ORGANIC TOO!

STRAW WOULD HAVE TO BE ORGANIC TOO!

WHY AREN’T YOU ORGANIC?

The three primary reasons we are not organic are:

  • Animals must be processed by an organic processor. This is a difficult quality to find in a processor and impossible now due to COVID.

  • Everything our animals '“might” consume must be organic. This includes the straw in their hut. A very expensive undertaking!

  • Organic animals do not have to be raised in humane conditions! They can be raised on concrete in a warehouse and never see the light of day and be considered organic. Horrible!
